High-Level Information About Both Jamf Integrations
To navigate to our Jamf Pro Integration, please go to Settings >Integrations >Jamf Integration
Here are some high-level notes before we get into the steps of the integration setup:
- IMPORTANT! Because of the technical knowledge required, your district’s IT administrator (or someone with a similar role) will most likely need to perform this procedure to sync Jamf Pro to ML Work Orders.
- Once the Jamf integration is active, you will see a green banner message posted at the top of the page.
- The Jamf Apple Device integration will auto-sync every 24 hours.
- Once the Jamf Apple Device is synced in, ONLY the mapped fields on the asset record can not be edited, otherwise, most fields on the Asset record will still be editable
-
Asset Creation in ML Work Orders
- The integration keys in on the serial number of the Jamf Apple device to uniquely identify the device.
- If the integration finds a match on the serial number, it will update the existing ML Work Order asset record with the information from the Jamf platform, otherwise, it will make a brand new asset record
- The integration will bring over the devices as iPad, iPhone, and Macbook Asset Types based on the model of the device.
Jamf Pro Apple Device Integration
Step 1: Connection Tab within ML Work Orders
The connection tab will require field information to link your Jamf Pro instance to ML Work Orders.
- Jamf URL - This is the URL of your Jamf Pro instance
- Username - The Username of your admin account for Jamf Pro
- Password - The Password of your admin account for Jamf Pro
Once you have entered your Jamf Pro credentials:
- Select "Save" so your information is ready to test the connection
- Select "Test" to test the connection with your credentials. If the test is successful, you'll see the below message
- Select "Next" to begin your Field Mapping for the integration
Step 2: Field Mapping Tab within ML Work Orders
This integration will auto-map the serial # and the Model field to ML Work Orders Serial # and Model fields. The Field mapping offers customization for which field you would like to map to the ML Work Order Asset Name field and barcode field. The following fields are options:
- Serial #
- Asset Tag
- Mobile Device Name
Note: We are keying in on the serial # field in ML Work Orders/Jamf Pro to indicate if a Jamf device will update an existing asset in ML Work Orders or create a new asset record in ML Work Orders.
Once your field mapping is finished, please select "Next" to start your location mapping.
Step 3: Location Mapping Tab within ML Work Orders
Jamf location mapping will populate all of your buildings from Jamf. On this tab, you can map each applicable building to an ML Work Order (MLW) Location.
To map a Jamf Building to an MLW Location:
- Select the
icon. A dropdown that contains all spaces grouped by the buildings will display.
- Select the Space that the devices with this building in Jamf should map to in MLW
- Select the
icon to the right of the dropdown and save the selection.
- If you need to cancel your selection, select the

- If you need to cancel your selection, select the
- Once all appropriate buildings are mapped to MLW locations, select the "Next" Button in the bottom right of the page
-
Location Mapping Notes:
-
-
- You do NOT have to map all Jamf buildings to an MLW Location. If certain buildings in Jamf do not apply to MLW OR if you don't want devices at certain Jamf buildings mapped into MLW, then feel free to leave the MLW location blank for those kinds of buildings.
- In addition, if a Jamf Device does not have a building associated to it, then MLW will not sync over that device.
-
Step 4: Sync Data Tab within ML Work Orders
The Sync data tab is where you can add your Smart and/or Static device groups. The sync will bring in devices tagged to a group that's added on this tab and if the devices building has a mapped MLW location via the location mapping tab.
MasterLibrary Recommendation:
- Create one single smart group called "MasterLibrary" and put all devices you'd like to sync into ML Work Orders into that group. This way, you only need to add one group into ML Work Orders.
To Add a Group and Sync in your Apple devices:
- Select the
button in the top right of the grid
- Select the group you would like synced into ML Work Orders
- NOTE: The active checkbox will default to being checked
- Select Save
- Select OK to refresh the page with the newly added group
- Select the
icon on the right side of the grid to initiate the sync process for the group
- The Sync process can take a while depending on how many devices are in your group. So in the meantime, this load message will display
- Once the sync is completed, a new prompt will display
-
- Total Apple Device
- Total Devices records part of the group. The other field counts should add up to this number.
- Total Asset Updated
- This count represents the number of assets in MLW that had a matching serial # in Jamf and therefore were updated.
- Total Asset Added
- Newly created asset records in MLW
- Total Device Not Synced
- This count represents devices that did not have a building in Jamf OR their building in Jamf was not mapped to an MLW location.
- Total Apple Device
-
- Select OK and the Sync is now set up for this group!
-
NOTE: Now that the group is manually synced, it will be part of the nightly sync that happens every night. If you would like to ad-hoc sync this group anytime, feel free to select the
